What is silicone rubber

Silicone rubber (SiliconeRubber) is a kind of polymer elastic material with inorganic and organic properties of molecular bond. Its molecular primary bond is composed of silicon atoms and oxygen atoms alternately (--Si-o-Si-). The bond energy of silicon-oxygen bond is up to 370kj/mol, which is much larger than the carbon-carbon bond energy of 240KJ/mol of ordinary rubber. This is one of the main reasons why silica gel has very high thermal stability.

Silicone rubber has the widest operating temperature range (-100 ~ 350oC), excellent high and low temperature resistance, in addition, but also has excellent thermal stability, electrical insulation, weather resistance, ozone resistance, permeability, high transparency, tear strength, excellent heat dissipation and excellent adhesion, fluidity and release property. Some special silicone rubber also has excellent oil resistance, solvent resistance, radiation resistance and use at ultra-low temperatures. Silicone rubber is a unique synthetic elastomer made from a polymer crosslinked by oxygen and silicon. It perfectly balances mechanical and chemical properties to meet many of today's demanding applications.

Silicone materials are mainly composed of silicone oil, silicone rubber, silicone resin and silane coupling agent four categories, silicone rubber is the largest output of silicone products, the most widely used category of products. Its main composition is linear polysiloxane with high molar mass. Si-O-Si bond is its basic bond type, silicon atoms are mainly connected to methyl groups, a very small amount of unsaturated groups are introduced into the side chain, the intermolecular force is small, the molecule has a spiral structure, methyl groups are arranged outward and can rotate freely, so after vulcanization, silicone rubber has excellent high and low temperature resistance, weather resistance, hydrophobicity, electrical insulation, physiological inertia and other characteristics. It has been widely used in national defense, military industry, medical and health care, industrial and agricultural production and People's Daily life.
